DIYNO Kitset Boats - News

Custom DIYNO kits underway

Here are a few custom kits we have underway. All our kits are designed by Jim Pauling Yacht design. These kits have been designed specifically to meet the customers need.

8,5 metre jet boat being built by Caird Marine in Te Anau. The boat was built on and sits in our alloy/jig trailer that is hull matched to the boat. The hull length is 8.5 meters and the beam is 2.5 metres to make her legally towable on NZ roads.

8.8 metre over width jet boat being built by Nicholas Bailey in Hamilton. This boat also sits on and was built in our alloy jig/trailer system

This is a 10 metre kit due to get underway in Gisborne. This is the biggest alloy jig/trailer we have done and will require a COF to be towed on the road. The boat is 10 metres overall and 3.1 metres beam. Designed to cruise at 19-20 knots with a 400Hp Iveco engine and a Konrad leg concealed in the transom

3.6 metre Jet Boat Kit

The first of our 2020 model 361 wide body jet boats is due to be launched.

This 3.6 meter jet boat is designed to run jetski running gear. The wide body version is more of a load carrier than the narrower two man boat, but does not have quite the same performance. In saying that the owner told us he had three people aboard the little boat and still it out-performed a friends V8 powered jet boat which had just a helmsman aboard.

A friend of mine started the mini jet boat craze about 20 years ago when he cut a jet ski motor and unit out of a hull and stuck it in a Fyran 10 foot tin dinghy. Gee did that thing go but it was incredibly dangerous. I was asked to design a 3 meter boat but the handling and performance would not only be poor but potentially dangerous so I refused to do it. I did however design a mini jet boat to run jetski running gear that performed well and was safe. This 361 model is the result. It has excellent performance both on rivers and open water but her handling is very safe. Unfortunately there have been some very bad accidents with poorly designed mini jet boats caused by handling issues. These boats do not suffer from those handling issues.

The top picture is the original model.

The picture below is the new model (2021) on the alloy jig/trailer. There are a number of these being built around the country in various configurations.

New model 701 booked in for cutting

The first of the new model 701 kits is underway. It features a long cabin with head/shower unit between the cockpit and the wheelhouse. The boat is a small launch accommodation wise but still performs and handles like all DIYNO boats do. Very efficient and sea kindly.
